If you have selected "California" to the following question, "Do you collect the personal information of residents of any U.S. state(s)?" within the Privacy Policy questionnaire (see visual below), and you have not already activated the consent solution, you will be offered the ability to activate the consent solution to add it to your website.

You will see a message within your license, offering the ability to activate the Cookie Policy and Consent Tool:

Steps to activate Cookie Policy and Consent Tool:

1. Log in (https://app.termageddon.com)

2. Click into your license

3. Click the 'Launch cookie consent tool' button (see above screenshot)

4. Agree to Usercentrics' policies and click "Activate Cookie Policy and Consent Tool"

5. Answer the new questionnaire. You can choose styles of the consent tool, as well as change any wording.

Ensure you provide an answer to the "Privacy Policy URL" field as well as complete a sitemap scan on the final page of the questionnaire by clicking "Scan". Click 'submit' when done.

The final page of the Cookie Policy and Consent Tool questionnaire is where you list the cookies/Services you are using on your website. If the scan is missing a Service embedded into your website, you can click 'add new service' and manually add it to your list.  You can also 'edit' a Service, and on the right hand side under 'general', you can change default settings such as categories and whether to auto-accept user consent. When you change a Service to the 'Essential' category, that means it will load regardless of user consent choices, for example.

Please note: reCaptcha is a third party security feature. If you are using reCaptcha, you may need to consider editing this Service's default category and changing it to "Essential". Although technically consent is required, many/most site owners change reCaptcha to "Essential" because they need reCaptcha to load for security purposes. With that said, please note there are privacy focused captcha alternatives available such as friendlycaptcha.com.

6. Upon clicking submit, you will be brought to the 'view embed code' page, where you will see 2-3 embed codes.

The first embed code is for the Cookie Policy. Create a Cookie Policy page for your website, and embed the code into the body of that page. Add a hyperlink to this newly created page in the footer of your website.

The second embed code is for the Usercentrics consent tool. Embed this code into the top of the <head> of your website.  If you are using Wordpress, we recommend doing this via the Termageddon plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/termageddon-usercentrics/).

If you selected the "Privacy Settings hyperlink" option within the questionnaire, you will see a third embed code at the bottom. Paste this code in the global footer of your website. This code is what gives users the ability to change their consent settings. Please review the "If you have a WordPress website" below for more information (if applicable). If you are using the WordPress plugin, we provide additional embedding features (such as shortcodes and alternative embed codes) to add the Privacy Settings hyperlnk.

7. It is crucial that you test the website after adding the consent tool.  Consent solutions block third party scripts from loading until after a user provides consent. This means third party features embedded on your website will be impacted after implementing this tool. Be sure to visit the website in a fresh incognito window and test third party features and submit forms (contact forms, payment forms, etc.) to ensure all is working properly. If a third party script is blocked, you may need to go to the final page of the Cookie Policy and Consent Tool questionnaire and click 'add new Service' and type in the third party service that is blocked. You can also 'edit' an individual Service and under 'general', you can change the category if you wish. Upon adding and clicking 'submit', test in a fresh incognito window to confirm all is working properly.

If you are using an optimization plugin on your website where you are altering JS, this may impact the consent solution. Here are instructions on how to adjust you optimization plugin accordingly.

If you have a WordPress website, the Termageddon plugin will allow you to use a Geolocation feature, where you can select to only show the consent tool to visitors from California (for example).

If your website is based in Divi, the Termageddon plugin is required to ensure the consent tool is working properly. Upon activating the plugin and adding in your consent embed code, go to 'Settings' page and select the option to disable the consent tool for logged in administrators. This ensures Divi's Visual Builder continues to work properly while making site edits as an admin.

When using the geolocation feature along with the "Privacy Settings" hyperlink, go to the plugin's 'Settings' area and select/enable "Privacy Settings Link - Alternative Implementation". Place this code in the global footer of the website to ensure the Privacy Settings Link works while using the Geolocation.
