Instead of using the complimentary Usercentrics consent solution for your Shopify website, consider using Shopify's native consent solution:

Benefits:

  1. Shopify's native, non-essential cookies are difficult for third party consent solutions to manage just in general. Usercentrics (and many other popular CMPs in general) are working with Shopify directly to improve proper consent capture, but until that happens, the solution that Shopify provides by default can offer a more comprehensive route for websites that are using non-essential Shopify related cookies.
  2. Shopify offers a geolocation feature with their consent solution, meaning you can select which regions to display the consent solution to (and which regions to hide the consent solution from showing).
  3. Leveraging Shopify's consent solution with Termageddon's auto-updating Privacy Policy generator and the Cookie Policy generator is an excellent way to ensure consent is being captured from site visitors, while keeping your website policies updated over time.

If you do use the Shopify consent solution, you will still want to complete the Cookie Policy and Consent Tool questionnaire with all respective disclosure requirements. That way you can utilize the Cookie Policy for your website as well (but you do not have to use the Usercentrics consent script on your website).

To enable consent mode in your Shopify account, follow these instructions:

  1. Sign in to your Shopify account.
  2. Click Settings at the bottom of page menu on the left.
  3. Click Customer privacy on the menu.
  4. Open the “Cookie banner” section and click Set up banner.
  5. Confirm your appearance and position preferences, then click Activate cookie banner.
  6. Confirm which regions the banner should appear in and click Activate.

After you’ve enabled your consent banner, consent mode is enabled automatically.
