This article was created to help you quickly understand how to go through Termageddon's policy and consent generation process. From registration, to purchase, to answering the questionnaire, to embedding the codes into your website, we recommend you use this article in particular to help get set up with Termageddon.
Video walkthrough guide:
Step by Step Instructions:
Step 1: Register
1. Visit Termageddon.com and click 'register' in the top right corner
2. Fill out the form to register. Provide an email you have access to (this email will not be disclosed in your policies; this is simply the email we will use to notify you regarding privacy law changes, billing notices, and other account related topics).
3. Verify your email
4. You will then be brought into your account
Step 2: Purchase
1. When brought into your account you will be provided a modal. Select the option to purchase and begin setting up a license.
* If you do not see this modal, you can simply click the green "Add License" button.
2. On the purchase page, you will need to provide your credit card information. You will also need to select a plan (Monthly or annual) and agree to our policies to complete checkout.
* If you have multiple websites, you can make additional purchases after you set up your first license. This will give you the advantage of being able to 'duplicate' the license you are currently creating, which will help expedite future license creations.
* You can update your card at any time in the future by clicking your initials (in the top right corner) and visiting the Billing area.
3. Upon successful payment, you will receive a modal, prompting you to "Continue" into the questionnaire to generate your policies and consent solution.
Step 3: Answer questionnaire
1. Termageddon's generator consists of 8 sets of questions to ensure our generator can provide the disclosures you are specifically required to make for the laws, rules and regulations that Termageddon covers.
2. Answer each question in the questionnaire, clicking 'Next' along the way. If you need help answering a question, hover over that question (so that it is highlighted), and on the right hand side you will see Termaguider, which will provide a video + content discussing how best to answer that particular question.
* If you get stuck, we recommend watching the video above, where you can skip through the video and locate exactly where you are at in the generation process. In the video we go through a typical license setup and address common questions along the way.
--> For example the Data Types area of the questionnaire can get quite advanced, depending on how many privacy laws apply. However, this particular section is a lot easier to use if you select all 'popular answers' via Website Functionalities page (discussed in detail at 18 minutes 45 seconds in the video).
--> Another example where issues may occur is the cookie/Services scanner, where Termageddon is often the first time website owners are setting up comprehensive consent banners for their website. We highly recommend watching the video where we discuss this in detail (32 minutes, 05 seconds in the video), as setting this up correctly upfront can prevent issues later on when testing.
3. Upon completing the questionnaire, you will be brought to the page where you can share license access as well as grab the embed codes to install into your website. This is discussed in more detail at 38 minutes, 44 seconds in the video.
* You can share your license with your web developer, who can help grab the embed codes to add it to your website.
* You can share your license with your attorney, who can review your questionnaire and can even customize your policies however they wish (this feature is available from your Dashboard page, where you click into your license, and click 'edit' next to "Review and Customize Policies"
* You can also share
Step 4: Embed Policies codes + consent solution + testing
Each web building platform (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Duda, Shopify, etc.) has its own way to create pages and to embed codes. We provide implementation instructions for each of these individual platforms below, but first we will share in general what needs to be done:
1. You now need to create a page for each of your policies. So for example, if you generated a Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Cookie Policy, you will need to create a page, title it "Privacy Policy", then create another page, title it "Terms of Service", and then create one more page, and title it "Cookie Policy".
2. Then, you will need to copy each embed code and paste it into the body of each page. This is often done via an "html" or "embed" widget.
3. Make sure your newly created policy pages are visible on your website. This can be done by adding links to these newly created pages into the global footer of your website.
* Another recommended location would be to add checkboxes to forms on your website, where you have users agree to each of your policies prior to submitting their data through your forms. You would want to make these checkboxes required fields, and have them be unselected by default (meaning the user is required to take an action and 'check' the box to ensure they aknowledge that they've agreed to your policies.
3. You will also need to add the consent code into the <head> of your website. The consent script needs to load before any other third party scripts, to ensure it can control those third party scripts to get consent from the website visitor first, prior to those third party scripts loading. For example, you will want the consent script to load first prior to the Google Analytics script, in order for Usercentrics to keep Google Analytics off, and only let it turn on after a website visitor provides consent.
4. Last but not least, you will need to test your website. Ensure the policies on your policy pages load properly. Visit the website in a fresh incognito window, click 'deny all' in the cookie consent banner, and navigate through your website, visiting pages and testing features such as video players, contact forms, and ecommerce checkouts. The video guide in this article discusses this in more detail (within the Cookie Policy and Consent Tool portion of the questionnaire). We recommend your web developer inspects your website, where under Application -> Cookies, they can test to ensure third party tracking cookies do not load until after consent is obtained.
